The Blur Between Us

by :PAPERCUTZ

/
1.
Lyrics: "They sing out your name as the hourglass runs out. Their words cut through the room… driving me into the storm."
2.
Lyrics: "Outside, looking up, at the shattering sky Rain in tears, I take a path that started with a goodbye. I follow adrift, to the sound of an ending world, of memories too heavy to keep. I walk towards a place, far enough, somewhere, somehow, I roam the streets, before the day reigns. The end is now a part of me. No matter how far I go, can't seem to get away from myself. As the morning seeps through the heavy night, I let go for the storm to carry me away... before the day reigns."
3.
Rivers 04:02
Lyrics: "The dawn awaits us out of here. Through the woods, we face our fears. White morning breeze, rain settles to snow. Light unravels our orchards of sorrow. (They say:) "Yours is the sunlight, it's time to come home." The past we're letting go. I'll own the night beneath the sky, Home is where the rivers dry. We're just shedding skins. Peering through into the past, further and further away... White morning breeze, Rain settles to snow. Light unravels our orchards of sorrow. Yours is the sunlight, it's time to come home. I'll own the night beneath the sky Home is where the rivers dry."
4.
Lyrics: "So far I've played out my role, in a play that is no more. Now that fate has caught up with me, breaking the fourth wall... is what I'm longing for. I am not a prisoner. Noting left to fake, no one to bow for. And knowing this I say farewell to my old self. At the edge of the world, I take a blind leap, I start over again. I am not a prisoner."
5.
Echoed 04:26
Lyrics: " (In the shadows) he draws a path. (In the shadows) he finds a way. (In the shadows) night's aftermath. (In the shadows) hanging in dismay Awakening at dusk, but bound to fade one day. Life kicks in with each breath, it's meaning echoed on replay. As the Winter years have passed, my descent over at last. Washed clean of Summer's dust by promise of days of gentle rain. Memories fade. You could fall in and that be the end of us crashing. Leaning over the edge and peer down to see nothing. As the Winter years have passed, my descent over at last. Washed clean of Summer's dust by promised days of gentle rain... memories fade. But in the shadows he draws, in the shadows he finds a way."
6.
Redenção 04:24
7.
Lyrics: "My heart knows darkness lives in me. I feel alive, when he takes control, letting me know he is in there. I'm guilty with the thrill, I don't fight him anymore. Nothing else could care for me, not even you. Or is that just his allure? He's silent no more. He whispers "this is who you are, forget who you've been before". My heart knows darkness lives in me. My silent passenger."

Between 03:49
Lyrics: "Inside her mind, she opened wide roads of spring, deep inside her mind. Nature blossomed and became her skin. He, made of sun and water, was the fruit he was, he was the seed. And they built a secret garden and their holding hands was all they needed. And they built a secret garden and all they needed was their roots. Inside his mind, buried in her mind, a common ground, their common ground. Inside their minds, between their bodies, no distance could ever be found. And the distance was dissolved. And the air was there to be breathed, breathed slow. Inside his mind, buried in her mind, a common ground, their common ground. Inside their minds, between their bodies, no distance could ever be found."
10.
Lyrics: "My porcelain beauty... will you ever break?"
11.
12.
Lyrics: "I'll follow you to where the sent, of a new beginning leads. Across the land we once knew, where the wild boldly grew. (I'll follow you) Can you hear the lone wolf howling into the night with pride? We've traveled over the seas, far beyond our insecurities. Now we're finally reaching the Lylac tree. With all your perfect imperfections, When I walk beside you, I'm a better me/we. I'll follow you, to where beasts die. Into the wild we go... the greatest unknown!"
13.
Lyrics: "oh i miss the kiss of treachery the shameless kiss of vanity the soft and the black and the velvety up tight against the side of me and mouth and eyes and heart all bleed and run in thickening streams of greed as bit by bit it starts the need to just let go my party piece oh i miss the kiss of treachery the aching kiss before i feed the stench of a love for a younger meat and the sound that it makes when it cuts in deep the holding up on bended knees the addiction of duplicities as bit by bit it starts the need to just let go my party piece but i never said i would stay to the end so i leave you with babies and hoping for frequency screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy screaming me over and over and over i leave you with photographs pictures of trickery stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery songs about happiness murmured in dreams when we both us knew how the ending would be... so it's all come back round to breaking apart again breking apart like i'm made up of glass again making it up behind my back again holding my breath for the fear of sleep again holding it up behind my head again cut in deep to the heart of the bone again round and round and round and it's coming apart again over and over and over now that i know that i'm breaking to pieces i'll pull out my heart and i'll feed it to anyone crying for sympathy crocodile cry for the love of the crowd and the three cheers from everyone dropping through sky through the glass of the roof through the roof of your mouth through the mouth of your eye through the eye of the needle it's easier for me to get closer to heaven than ever feel whole again i never said i would stay to the end i knew i would leave you with babies and everything screaming like this in the hole of sincerity screaming me over and over and over i leave you with photographs pictues of trickery stains on the carpet and stains on the memory songs about happiness murmured in dreams when we both of us knew how the end always is..."

about

:PAPERCUTZ's sophomore album produced by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, Gang Gang Dance and Beach House) featuring darker, edgier songs with tribal percussion and epic sounds.

'The Blur Between Us' picks up on the character portrayed in 'Lylac' (papercutz.bandcamp.com/album/lylac) and finds him dealing with feelings of loss for the first time in his adult life.

The album starts with the character getting news about the death of a father like figure. This event prompts him to a dreamlike introspection where he imagines himself in epic fantasy episodes that lead him to understand his relationship with those around him and the feelings emerging from dealing with his own mortality.

All lyrics by Bruno Miguel and Portuguese fiction writer José Luís Peixoto.

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." Oscar Wilde

"All the dictionaries put together, don’t contain half the terms we would need in order for us to understand each other.” Saramago

Mastered by Grammy nominated, TEC award winning engineer, Joe LaPorta

Album art by Aëla Labbé and artistic direction and design by my.little.lie.

Available on Sounds Of A Playground / Rastilho Records / Kilk Records

PRESS QUOTES:

“There’s something intangible here that makes my guts feel like a dribbling basketball. The singer Melissa Veras’ voice haunts the album, crookedly beautiful, touching down most gracefully on “Rivers” and the “Beasts” single. But the instrumental tracks are affecting as well, like the marimba-guided “Redencao” (Portuguese for “redemption”) and its triumphant, piano-strings-and-horns reprise" The Fader

":Papercutz’s new album The Blur Between Us, is out today on UK label Sounds of a Playground, as is the album. We’re digging the spooky electro-folk direction this Portuguese music project has taken” MTV Iggy

"Characteristically creating pop music that is both cruel and beautiful, otherworldly and organic." DUMMY Magazine

"Sonic equivalent of a ghost story told around a campfire." Prefix Magazine

"Beautifully blends acoustic and electronic instrumentation with gorgeous melodies, vocals, and ambient sounds." InYourSpeakers

“We didn’t think it was possible for a band to accurately capture the sound of Adderall. Then again, it’s probably what should be expected from a group whose name, :Papercutz, is a question mark short of being a note scribbled on the pavement by an addict enduring the depths of a bender” Risk and Consequence

“'Rivers' melds some very intense synthesizers with menacing percussion that’s only softened by Veras’ gorgeous, floating vocals” Ear Buddy

“Creates a surreally beautiful soundscape with deep and otherworldly sounds, while New York’s Melissa Veras provides hauntingly ethereal vocals….travels through shoegaze infused electro pop and comes out big and powerful. Its captivating atmosphere will leave you breathless for more” Music For The Masses

“Haunting vocals creep through the ethereal synths and ramble into a peripatetic drum beat. The song is wholly electro, fuzzy, and perfectly put together. Rivers is a really catchy song and totally draws you in with its hypnotizing beauty” Chromatist

“'Where Beasts Die'lush tune full of electrifying harmonies and synths juxtaposed with acoustic guitar fingerpicking. The breakdown at 3:45 is especially interesting. I can’t say this’ll be one of my favorite songs of the year, but it’s a promising sound from a young band” The Tune

"Un disco per l'Europa" Selected album by Thierry Vissol (European Commission) & Luca D'ambrosio
